Steinbraunelle in türkischem Skigebiet

Beim… Continue reading Steinbraunelle in türkischem Skigebiet

Ring Ouzel at the reservoir for snow cannons in Palandöken Ski resort in eastern Turkey

A water retention basin for the ski canons is surrounded by a chain link fence and some willow trees. I park the car half hidden by a willow bush on the bank. The early morning dawns. The stony shore seems to be a very good bird attraction here in the barren landscape. I can quickly… Continue reading Ring Ouzel at the reservoir for snow cannons in Palandöken Ski resort in eastern Turkey

Songbird migration at Cildir Lake in eastern Turkey

The planted pine grove is surprisingly productive. In the car, I patrol the edge of the forest, which is now in the morning sunlight. This draws out the resting migratory birds in masses. I patiently park my car a short distance from the pines and just wait. Several (5) Spotted Flycatchers (Muscicapa striata), a Willow… Continue reading Songbird migration at Cildir Lake in eastern Turkey

Diesmal… Continue reading Junger Zilpzalp mit Motte als Beute

Corn Crake, a shy inhabitant of the Warta river in Poland

Drops of dew hang on the sloping blades of grass in the wide floodplain of the Warthe in the early morning. It’s summer and the sun rises very early. A fat, red ball has pushed itself over the horizon. But the sun has not yet sent out its rays to banish the last remnants of… Continue reading Corn Crake, a shy inhabitant of the Warta river in Poland

Chiffchaff: successful in spite of being very young

Still a little uncertain, a chubby something wobbles out of the dense willow (Salix sp.). Surprisingly unerringly, this Phylloscopus-warbler, which has probably just fled, caught a damp moth from the early morning, hits it a few times so that the scales squirt and devours it with relish. A little later it can be seen on… Continue reading Chiffchaff: successful in spite of being very young

Young Nightingale in the countryside of Brandenburg

Laterally, the warm first sunlight falls on the exposed hedge. A fence post stands picturesquely in front of it. For a long time, I look out of a hide at the place illuminated with the rise of the sun. The hedgerow is still in the shade. Suddenly, there is a grey-brownish bird standing on a… Continue reading Young Nightingale in the countryside of Brandenburg

Common Whitethroat at Brenu Beach Grasslands near Cape Coast

After a long journey from Ankasa, we – a Birdquest-Group – stranded for an afternoon birding at Brenu Beach Grasslands near Cape Coast / Ghana. We had just seen a male Marsh Tchagra (Tchagra minuta) a bird in a spiny bush reminded me of an old friend from Germany. It looked like a Common Whitethroat… Continue reading Common Whitethroat at Brenu Beach Grasslands near Cape Coast

Young Warbler as an ID-challenge in southern Brandenburg in Germany

In the beginning of August I shot the image of a drab warbler near a pond in southern Brandenburg. I did not realize the bird at that moment, as the whole willow bush in a otherwise highly agricultural land was quite busy with migrating birds, e.g. Sedge Warbler (Acrocephalus schoenobaenus) well. I think, I remember… Continue reading Young Warbler as an ID-challenge in southern Brandenburg in Germany
