Heath-moor landscape: spring awakening

Dusk falls over the high moor. A burring sound is suddenly heard over the bulbs and pines. A Eurasian Woodcock (Scolopax rusticola)  is on its territorial flight. She can also be seen briefly. A little later, the long-eared owl (Asio otus) reports with its typical call from an oak stand. In spring, life awakens in… Continue reading Heath-moor landscape: spring awakening

Good tips for a trip to the Kakamega Forest

If you are keen to hear the morning roar of the Guerezas (Colobus guereza), just one of seven resident monkey species in the heart of western Kenya, and see a Green Hylia (Hylia prasina) or a Yellowbill (Ceuthmochares aereus) in the semi-darkness of the forest, you should take your time for the Kakamega forest in… Continue reading Good tips for a trip to the Kakamega Forest

Wryneck in Brandenburg/ Germany

A game protection fence separates the meadow from a growth area for the Scots Pine (Pinus sylvestris). High rhythmic, choppy sounds and a bird flying into a Guelder-rose (Viburnum opulus), rests a few seconds suggest a nest. The enthusiasm is great when the view through the binoculars shows a brown-grey bird with a striking black… Continue reading Wryneck in Brandenburg/ Germany

How to photograph Hoopoes? Part II

I already discussed shortly the limits and possibilities of remote photography at the Hoopoe’s nest in the blog “How to photograph Hoopoes? Part II” described. At the beginning of June the Eurasian Hoopoes (Upupa epops) are so far advanced that 3 young are waiting begging for food in the nest. Whether you photograph the approaching… Continue reading How to photograph Hoopoes? Part II

How to photograph Hoopoes? Part I

It’s the beginning of June. The Eurasian Hoopoes (Upupa epops) successfully reared the nest with 3 young in a shelter for the first few days. Due to the size of the garden plot, the nest and the approaching Eurasian Hoopoes could be photographed both from the car and from a camouflage tent. Just half an… Continue reading How to photograph Hoopoes? Part I
